BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Broward County Commission on the Status of Women will celebrate their 40th Anniversary on December 14, 2016. The Commission on the Status of Women was established by the Board of County Commissioners on December 14, 1976, to serve as a medium to bring about understanding and solutions to the many complex problems involving the status of women in Broward County.

For the past 40 years, 161 members have dedicated countless hours, talent and energy to ensure equity for all women in our county, and have played a unique and meaningful role throughout its history in ensuring public awareness of the needs, contributions and potential of women in all facets of community life and public office.

A 40th anniversary exhibit in the lobby of the Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, displays the names of the 161 members.

The Board of County Commissioners will present a proclamation recognizing the 40th Anniversary on Tuesday, December 13th, at the 2PM Good and Welfare meeting at the Broward County Governmental Center.

The Commission on Status Women serves in an advisory capacity to the Broward County Commission and through education and advocacy, identifies and helps resolve economic, health and social issues facing women in our community.
