BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – The upcoming June monthly Business Development Series workshop presented by the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) will feature marketing expert Lisa D. Sparks, president of Verity Content, and Jay Reynolds, founder and CEO of WolfCreek Consulting, Inc.

The focus of the workshop series is developing, creating capacity and providing resources to the small business community and features a roster of topical guest speakers offering tips and tools to help nurture, sustain and improve firms. The workshop will be held on Thursday, June 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Deerfield Beach Percy White Branch Library, located at 837 E. Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach.

The featured topic of the June workshop is “Polish your Pitch” and attendees will get tips and on-the-spot feedback on how to improve their business presentation, or "elevator speech." The purpose of this workshop is to help business owners perfect their ease of delivery in promoting their goods and services when opportunity knocks.  Participants will also learn how to adjust their pitch for multiple audiences such as networking and solicitation meetings.

Up to five firms will be randomly selected to present to the attendees and will be given an assessment by Sparks including tips and acknowledgement of areas where they excelled. Sparks is a well-known small business marketing expert who has shared results generating insights to more than 20,000 business owners in the United States and Latin America. She consults with national and international firms on starting and sustaining profitable marketing, including social media and blog campaigns.

The event will conclude with Reynolds, a local business owner, whose perfected pitch earned him the honor of winning the 2014 Broward College Shark Tank competition, held earlier this year. Reynolds competed against eight other business owners and effectively marketed WolfCreek Consulting, an executive search firm specializing in placing professionals in healthcare, finance, sales, information technology and management.

The workshop series is free and open to the public; pre-registration is not required.  For additional information on the “2014 Business Development” workshop series, contact the Office of Economic and Small Business Development at 954-357-6400 or visit Broward.org/EconDev. Individuals requiring accommodations in order to participate in a workshop must make a request prior to the scheduled workshop.
