BROWARD COUNTY, FL -
Keep Broward Beautiful, a Solid Waste and Recycling Services program, is the proud recipient of a President's Circle Award from the national nonprofit organization, Keep America Beautiful. This prestigious award recognizes exemplary performance in building and sustaining vibrant communities.

To be eligible for the award, Keep Broward Beautiful was required to meet specific criteria including administering activities in litter prevention, recycling and waste reduction, furthering community beautification and greening efforts, and conducting an annual Community Appearance Index, a visual assessment that is used to plan community improvement programs.

Thousands of volunteers have participated in Keep Broward Beautiful events. These programs foster pride among participants, beautify neighborhoods, and give students an opportunity to earn community service hours.

Keep Broward Beautiful is best known for its popular Adopt-A-Street program, Beach Sweeps and community cleanups. Currently, Keep Broward Beautiful partners with the cities of Dania Beach, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Lauderdale Lakes, Tamarac, Wilton Manors and the Broward Municipal Services District (formerly called Unincorporated Broward).

Keep Broward Beautiful is making a big difference. The inclusion of 53 streets in the Adopt-A-Street program provides volunteer groups with 27 miles of roadway cleanup and beautification opportunities. In the Broward Municipal Services District alone, community cleanups resulted in the removal of approximately 4,600 pounds of litter in 2014.

"The grassroots nature of Keep Broward Beautiful programs helps foster neighborhood pride and has a positive impact on the environment," said Program Coordinator, Steve Kasselakis.  "We are proud to be recognized with a President's Circle Award and look forward to growing our programs in the future."
