Broward County, FL - The Broward County Commission recently approved an Economic Development Program for the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD). The program is part of the County Commission's ongoing revitalization efforts and consists of a combination of matching grants, strategic land assembly and a revolving loan fund. The program seeks to enhance the potential long-term viability of existing businesses located along the BMSD Commercial corridors and create opportunities for new private investment in the area.

"Several businesses in the BMSD have already shown interest in the program," stated Sandy-Michael McDonald, Director of the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development. "Our goals are to assist them in enhancing the look and feel of the area and help position their businesses to be competitive well into the future."

The Economic Development Program focuses primarily on businesses along the BMSD commercial corridors and includes the following components:

  • Facade/Property Improvement Grant Program
  • Business Development/Redevelopment Grant Program
  • Demolition Matching Grant Program
  • Strategic Land Assembly Program
  • Revolving Loan Fund

Approval of the Economic Development Program is one of several new initiatives by the Broward County Commission designed to spur development. Additional initiatives include a $1 million Complete Streets road improvement project for NW 27th Avenue and construction of 18 new single family residences at the Southeast corner of NW 27th Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard.
