BROWARD COUNTY, FL - An international delegation of officials from the Colombian National Disaster Management Agency visited the Broward Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on Tuesday, December 6. The officials were invited under the auspices of the U.S. Agency of International Development and the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance. The Federal Office is charged by the President with directing and coordinating international U.S. government disaster assistance. The delegation visit was facilitated by Florida International University's Disaster Resilience and Climate in the Americas Program.

"Once again, Broward Emergency Management was extremely honored to have been selected by a Federal Office to host an international group of emergency management professionals," noted Miguel Ascarrunz, Director of the Broward Emergency Management Division.

The Broward visit focused on sharing best practices on disaster preparedness and readiness as well as inter-agency coordination with the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center. Dr. Samantha Danchuck, Assistant Director, Environmental Planning & Community Resilience Division also provided an overview of the County's Climate Resilience initiatives as they relate to the regional impacts of climate change and sea level rise. In addition to briefings, staff provided the delegation with tours of the EOC and the Mobile Command Vehicle.
