BROWARD COUNTY, FL - For more than three years the Lee Wagener Art Gallery in Terminal 2 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has been showcasing some of Broward County's finest, local artists. As an unexpected place of respite in the midst of a bustling travel itinerary, The Lee Wagener Art Gallery, supported by Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art & Design Program and the Broward County Aviation Department, has offered Broward artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in solo exhibition. "What a wonderful and beautiful surprise in the midst of a hectic and harrowing journey,” said New Yorker traveler Zoe D.

Whether viewing the abstract style of Andrea Huffman, inspired by the beauty and intrigue of the Florida environment; or the silent urban spaces and forgotten places of Ruben Ubiera, or the wonderful and eclectic characters that inspired Tom De Vita's work in the exhibition, The Locals, passengers seemed to appreciate the gallery's location. "What a great surprise!" said French traveler M. Pierre, who happened upon the gallery by chance and felt that the exhibit enhanced her travel experience. "I took one of Professor's De Vita's art classes at Barry University," she delightedly remarked.

Through the years, artists have been selected through the Public Art & Design Program and exhibits changed every three to four months. Broward Cultural Division and Broward County Aviation Department wish to thank each individual artist who helped enrich the travel experience of passengers. The roster of Lee Wagener artists include: Harumi Abe, Katherine Allen, John Bowen, Candy Childrey, Tom De Vita, Virginia Fifield, Michele Guarino, Nolan Haan, Andrea Huffman, Jeremiah Jenner, Peter Nolan, Janet Onofrey, Rosanna Saccoccio, Isabel Perez Salazar, Isaac Allen Sandy, Mary Lou Siefker, Nancy Spielman and Ruben Ubiera.

Currently, Artist-in-Residence Dawn Roe's exhibition titled, Airfield Studies (2013-14),
will run through the end of October and will be the final exhibit at the gallery. Roe's exhibition is comprised of a grouping of photographic transparencies created as part of the airport's Artist-in-Residence project associated with the development and construction of the newly commissioned 8,000 ft- long South Runway.

Dawn Roe (MFA, Illinois State University, BFA, Marylhurst University) is an Assistant Professor of Art at Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. Her works have been featured in galleries and exhibitions nationally and internationally, as well as her writing and blogs, featured in print and web-based journals including Oxford American and Fraction Magazine.
