BROWARD COUNTY, FL - As gas prices continue to rise, Broward County Transit (BCT) is offering everyone a solution: 'Dump the Pump' and ride the bus.

On Thursday, June 18th, BCT will join other public transportation systems across the nation in the tenth annual Dump the Pump Day. This is the chance for those who don't normally ride BCT buses to try them out, leave the driving to BCT, reduce traffic on the road by getting out of their cars and reduce dependence on fuel.

Area residents can participate in several different contests during Dump the Pump day next week.

First, take a 'transit selfie' of yourself and friends on a bus ride. Tell us where you're going and who you're with - then enter it into the contest for a chance to win a Summer Prize Pack with free BCT and Tri-Rail passes and other Broward County's entertainment attractions. Three winners will be selected. Be sure to email all entries for consideration.

Second, plan to leave your car at home and fill out a Pledge to Ride telling us if you're taking the bus or train  from one of the South Florida transit agencies. Eight people will win a free monthly transit pass for BCT, Miami-Dade Transit, Palm Tran or Tri-Rail, which will show you a month's worth of savings!

Many customers around the nation have used Dump the Pump day to learn how much they can save. According to the American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) June Transit Savings Report the annual savings is $9,530, which is more than $794 per month, if a person leaves their car and uses public transit.

A great example of savings comes on the BCT Express buses serving Miami: A $2.65 one-way ticket allows a customer to sit back and be driven in a Wi-Fi enabled and air-conditioned bus, using the Express Lanes and paying no tolls to Miami and not having to pay to park either! The savings are great every day, imagine what you could do with all the money you save!

Please participate in the Dump the Pump contests and most of all - ride BCT on June 18
