BROWARD COUNTY, FL - For the month of June, Broward received less than 30% of our average rainfall. And in Florida, outdoor watering accounts for half the total water use of a home. Using water wisely not only saves money on your utility bill, it minimizes overwatering while keeping your lawn healthy. And, it helps protect our community's water supplies.  To help save water, NatureScape Broward is providing some water-saving tips:

  • Right Plant, Right Place: Plan your landscapes based on the availability of water, sun, and maintenance needed.  Keep plants with similar water needs together and avoid planting in areas where there are obstructions to good growth.
  • Water Wisely: Water at the best time, typically between evening and early morning, and water only when needed (look for signs such as folding leaf blades, a blue-gray color, or if your footprints or tire tracks remain visible). In Broward, landscape irrigation is only allowed two days a week, depending on address, and no watering is allowed between 10AM and 4PM.
  • Consider utilizing "smart" technology: "Smart" technology includes climate or soil-based controllers that automatically adjust watering based on rain, soil moisture, evaporation and plant water use.
