Florida Nature Prints by Broward Art Students

- A Colorful Welcome to Terminal 2 at FLL -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) travelers will be delighted to see a new children’s art exhibition in Terminal 2 titled “Florida Nature Prints.” This exhibit is the latest installment of En Plane Air, a rotating student art exhibition that highlights the talents of Broward County students.

The artworks on display, created by children ages 4-10, were completed as part of the Roosevelt Gardens Park Summer Camp Program in the Broward Municipal Services District. The program conducted by art teacher Toni Withaneye introduced participants to the art, tools and techniques of Printmaking.

According to Ms. Withaneye, “Many of the children were excited about creating animal shapes with this form of art. They were thrilled with the results and wanted to do more. As a teacher and artist, it is a joy to watch students learn new skills. Their happy faces become a real-life form of art.”

“It’s an honor to showcase the talents of these young children at FLL,” said Mark Gale, CEO/Director of Aviation, “their artwork reflects the vision and perspective they have on life in a colorful and vibrant way.”

The exhibition, part of the airport's community art programming, is in the pre-security area, above the escalators in Terminal 2. It is presented by the Broward County Aviation Department and Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art & Design program.

En Plane Air II in Terminal 3 will also receive a new exhibition – a colorful display of 27 umbrellas made of painted paper plates with pipe cleaners created by children of Broward County employees ages 4-13 who worked through Hurricane Irma at the County’s Emergency Operations Center. The umbrellas symbolically provided a source of safety for the children from the hurricane-force rain and wind.

As part of the County’s Public Art & Design program, FLL showcases more than fifty artworks throughout the airport’s facilities and grounds including photographs by world-renowned artists, video art, lighting displays, and artist-designed terrazzo floors.
