FLL's Patriot Day Ceremony to Honor 9/11 Victims

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The Broward County Aviation Department will host a Patriot Day Commemoration on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. The "We Will Never Forget" ceremony will begin at 8:30AM in Terminal 1, Lower Level (Baggage Claim) at Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

Speakers will include Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen, FLL CEO/Director of Aviation Mark E. Gale, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Federal Security Director Jason Martin, and U.S. Customs & Border Protection Acting Director Stephen Silvestri.

Special guests include the Police Pipe and Drum Corps of Florida (Bagpipe Troupe), the Broward Sheriff's Office Honor Guard, and the TSA Honor Guard and Choir. Transportation Security Officer Janielle Gordon will perform the National Anthem.

The permanent 9/11 Memorial in Terminal 1 includes these artifacts:

•    A fragment of the World Trade Center's South Tower.
•    A helmet of a New York Fire Department firefighter who took part in the World Trade Center recovery effort.
•    An American flag donated by Retired Lieutenant Colonel Michael F. Janzen, USAF. Following the attacks, he tucked the flag inside the cockpit of his F-15C
before each mission to remind himself of his sacred duty to protect the borders of the U.S.
