Animal Care to Undergo Refurbishment of Shelter HVAC System

- Adoption Center will switch to virtual services during construction -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The Broward County Animal Care Adoption Center located at 2400 SW 42nd Street, in Fort Lauderdale, will undergo refurbishment to its HVAC system. The work will include modifications to the roof at various locations throughout the building. The construction project is expected to take approximately six months to complete.

To ensure the safety of visitors during this time, Animal Care will close its Adoption Center to public access and will switch to virtual and appointment-only services beginning Sunday, January 17. These services will include:

  • Adoptions (submit an online application)

  • Foster Care (submit an online application)

  • Pet license tag sales (purchase online)

  • Pet Surrenders/Stray pets (by appointment only)

  • Return of lost dogs and cats to owners (by appointment only)

Animal Care’s online processes make it very easy for residents to adopt or foster a pet from the comfort of their homes. Prospective adopters or foster parents can view pictures of the pets on Animal Care’s website. If they see a pet they are interested in, they can then complete an Adoption or Foster Application. Once the application is submitted, the person receives a phone call from Animal Care to discuss the pet. If the applicant wishes to finalize the adoption or foster, a date and time is scheduled to meet the dog or cat.

Pet license tags can be purchased online. Those who wish to surrender their pet, turn in a stray pet, or claim their lost dog or cat, must schedule an appointment at admissions@broward.org.
