- New feature helps adopters make a good first impression -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - How do you make a good first impression with a dog? How about a treat or two! Visitors to Broward County Animal Care can now enjoy an interactive experience with pets by offering a yummy treat to adoptable dogs while walking through the shelter's kennel areas.

The fun begins in the main lobby at the new Doggie Treat Station. Visitors can dispense treats in special buckets and then stroll through the dog sections distributing the goodies through specially made "treat chutes." The interaction helps the dogs gain a positive impression of the visitor.

"Our new treat station is rewarding for both our dogs and our guests," said Emily Wood, Director, Broward County Animal Care. "Our pets learn that people are okay. This is especially helpful for pets who are a bit shy or for pets who may become overly excited. For visitors, it gives them a chance to interact with the dog and see a bit of the pet's personality. Through treats, a bond can begin which can ultimately lead to an adoption."

Broward County Animal Care is located at 2400 SW 42nd Street in Fort Lauderdale. The center is open for adoptions Tuesday through Sunday from 11AM to 5:30PM, closed on Mondays. There are no costs for adoptions and include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, a microchip and a Broward County pet license tag. For more information, visit Broward.org/Animal.
