Boccia Program for Veterans and Adults with Disabilities

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Park and Recreation Division's Special Populations Section and City of Sunrise will offer a Boccia Program for veterans, with and without disabilities, and adults 18 and over with physical disabilities. The weekly program starts on Tuesday, January 10th and runs through February 14th, from 1 to 3PM, at the Sunrise Civic Center Gymnasium (10610 W Oakland Park Blvd., Sunrise 33351; 954-747-4600).

Boccia is a highly competitive paralympic throwing sport, in which individuals thrown leather-like balls on a marked floor with the intent to have them land as close as possible to the target ball known as the jack. The program will introduce participants to the sport of boccia and focus on hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills that will improve with continued practice playing the sport.

The program is free, but class sizes are limited.  Preregistration is required by calling Special Populations at 954-357-8170 or emailing SpecialPopulations@Broward.org.

Adherence to CDC guidelines for social distancing, hand sanitizing, and wearing facial coverings is recommended.
