- Chip-a-Pet takes place February 17 in North Lauderdale -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Animal Care Division is offering residents a chance to get their dogs and cats vaccinated for rabies and microchipped for free. The event is held in partnership with the Broward Sheriff's Office to help prevent people from losing their pets. Pre-registration is not required to participate.

When: Saturday, February 17
10AM to 2PM

Where: Woodville Dog Park
1500 SW 83rd Ave.
North Lauderdale, FL 33068

Event attendees are encouraged to park at Pinewood Elementary School, 1600 SW 83rd Ave., North Lauderdale, FL 33068.

"It's always important for us, as a resource agency, to be able to provide these kinds of services to the community, especially at no cost," said Emily Wood, director of Broward County Animal Care. "It's important that your pets are protected from rabies, that keeps them healthy. Also, putting a value on micro-chipping your pet is almost impossible. Micro-chipping can mean the difference between losing your pet and having a friend for life."

The event is open to all dog and cat owners and is not just for those who adopted from Animal Care. Before getting the microchip, pets are scanned to be sure they don't already have one.
