BROWARD COUNTY, FL - In April, Broward County joins hundreds of counties across the country to observe National County Government Month (NCGM) with this year's theme "ForwardTogether." This initiative, sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo), is an opportunity to highlight and actively promote services and programs.

This month, we spotlight the essential programs provided by more than 60 agencies in Broward County. Our departments and agencies continue to connect, inspire and lead our communities in areas such as Affordable Housing, Resilience, Transportation, and Solid Waste and Recycling. Examples include:

CONNECT
The County faces challenges caused by traffic congestion and the environmental effects of motor vehicles. As a result, the Premium Mobility (PREMO) Plan was implemented to integrate and serve communities, enhance economic development, provide equitable transit solutions and promote safety, security and environmental stewardship.

INSPIRE
As a coastal community, the County is experiencing the impacts from climate change such as extreme heat, sea level/groundwater table rise and more frequent flooding events. Broward County along with 31 municipalities and the Seminole Tribe, is helping advance regional climate resilience through the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact.

LEAD
Rent prices have risen 70.5% over the last six years, and the median price for a single-family home is $595,000. The County Commission recognized the problem and has approved a "first of its kind" Master Plan for Affordable Housing to increase supply over the next ten years.

Broward County generates the second-highest amount of solid waste in the state, more than 4.6 million tons annually. As our population continues to increase, the amount of land available for waste management facilities does not. The County Commission funded several landfill projects that improved operations and customer service after conducting a countywide study of waste and recycling generated.
