HURRICANE MATTHEW ADVISORY NO. 10


BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Hurricane Matthew continues to approach Florida's east coast, and Broward County is currently under a Hurricane Warning. There is a voluntary evacuation order for low-lying areas and mobile homes. Tropical storm force winds are expected to arrive Thursday morning, and will strengthen throughout the afternoon through mid-day on Friday.

The Broward County Emergency Operations Center is currently at a Level 2 (partial) activation, and will move to a Level 1 (full) activation at 7AM, Thursday. County offices, parks and libraries will be closing at 5PM, Wednesday so that employees can prepare their facilities and their homes. County Government will be closed on Thursday and Friday. Broward District Schools are closed on Thursday and Friday.

The Broward County Call Center, is now open 24 hours a day as an Emergency Hotline for residents and businesses. Call 311 or 954-831-4000. Broward County will open nine shelters at 9PM Wednesday, including a pet-friendly shelter.

Regarding court operations, with the exception of essential divisions who must complete their dockets (first appearance, juvenile delinquency and dependency shelters and Domestic Violence) all courthouses in Broward County closed at noon today, and are scheduled to reopen for first appearance, delinquency and dependency on Saturday, and regular schedule on Monday. The courthouse will be closed for all proceedings on Thursday and Friday. The Public Defender's Office closed at noon today and will be closed Thursday and Friday. The State Attorney's Office closed at noon today and will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The Supervisor of Elections Office closed at 2PM today and will be closed Thursday and Friday. The Property Appraiser's Office is closed today and will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Airport and cruise port passengers are encouraged to check with their airline or cruise line for up-to-date information.
