BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. - The Broward County Homeless Initiative Partnership has been awarded a grant of nearly $9 million by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) through the 2013 HUD Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC) Program.
The grant award funds 18 renewal projects that will fund supportive services, transitional, permanent supportive housing through HUD's permanent supporting housing and shelter plus care programs, all of which help fulfill goals set out in the "A Way Home" Annual Plan to End Homelessness, approved by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in August 2013.
Of the 18 HUD awards, 12 are for permanent housing projects funding 684 beds, five are for transitional housing projects funding 428 beds and one is for supportive services projects serving 40 clients in permanent supportive housing. Most importantly, the renewal funds created 48 new, permanent supportive beds.
The 18 CoC projects will serve homeless adult and youth clients, including:
• individuals, families and veterans
• those with mental, emotional and physical disabilities
• clients with substance abuse disorders
• mothers with children including pregnant women, and
• those who are “chronically” homeless and those who have co-occurring disorders.
The additional grant awards will help fulfill goals set out in Broward County, Florida’s "A Way Home" Annual Plan to End Homelessness. Today, the County continues to actively seek and secure resources to address this growing need.

About Homeless Initiative Partnership
The Homeless Initiative Partnership (HIP), a section within the Community Partnerships Division of the Broward County Human Services Department, plans and coordinates services for homeless persons, and serves as liaison to the Homeless Initiative Partnership Advisory Board, which acts as agent for the Board of County Commissioners in the development and implementation of homeless assistance programs. HIP is also the lead agency for the County’s Homeless Continuum of Care, a network of organizations, advocates, residents and businesses that plan programs to help alleviate homelessness in Broward County.
