BROWARD COUNTY, FL Broward County had the honor of hosting a Florida Division of Historical Resources regional meeting to discuss the goals and objectives for the impending State of Florida Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan.  Broward County Historic Preservation Board staff, Rick Ferrer, Matt Defelice and Maribel Feliciano, attended the meeting on March 1st, 2016 at Long Key Nature Center. Presenters were Desiree Estabrook, State Historic Preservation Supervisor and Michael Zimny, State Certified Local Government Coordinator.  Attendees included planners, architects and professors from Broward County and Miami Dade County.

The meeting began with a presentation about the services the State provides through such programs as State Historical Markers, Florida Main Street, and Grants-in Aid.  The meeting then focused on soliciting audience participation about the State's programs.  The input was recorded and will be incorporated into Florida's 2017 Florida Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan.  The updated Plan will address the Florida Division of Historical Resources direction for the next five years.

Florida's current Comprehensive Historic Preservation plan is available online or by request from the Division of Historical Resources at 800-847-7278 or flheritage@dos.myflorida.com

About the Broward Historic Preservation Board
The Historic Preservation Board (HPB) designates or recommends for designation historic landmarks and districts, and then reviews applications to alter, add on to, demolish or move a landmark or properties within a historic district. Comprehensive plans, zoning, subdivision, and other land use laws can also be instrumental in supporting historic preservation and neighborhood conservation programs. Broward's Environmental Protection and Growth Management Division is the Agency Liaison for the HPB.  Visit HPB online.
