BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The potential threat to Broward County from Hurricane Dorian has passed. The Emergency Operations Center has begun its demobilization process and will return to a Level 3 (Monitoring) phase at 7PM Tuesday.

  • County Government will resume normal operations at 12:01AM Wednesday, September 4, including Parks, Libraries and Animal Care.

  • Port Everglades is now open.

  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is fully operational. However there are many flight delays and cancellations. Passengers should check with their airline before going to the airport.

  • The General Population Shelters are closed. The remaining occupants of the Special Needs shelters are being transported back to their homes.

  • Broward County Transit as well as TOPS Paratransit service resumed today at 12 noon. BCT Express bus service will resume Wednesday.   The Emergency Hotline will close at 7PM Tuesday, and reopen at 8:30AM Wednesday as 311. All normal 311 operations will resume.

  • Recycling and Garbage Collection Services will resume in the Broward Municipal Services District on Wednesday. This includes the neighborhoods of Broadview Park, Boulevard Gardens, Franklin Park, Roosevelt Gardens and Washington Park. Collection affected by suspended services will resume on the next normally scheduled pick-up day.

  • Broward County Landfill, 7101 SW 205th Avenue (US 27 and Sheridan Street), will resume normal hours of operation on Wednesday, September 4 from 8AM-4PM. Household garbage/food waste, hazardous waste (such as used oil, pesticides, pool chemicals) and gasoline are not accepted. Customers need to provide a valid driver's license.

Although we are no longer under a Tropical Storm watch, Broward County is still responding to possible local community impacts for Hurricane Dorian, focused on assessing damages, and getting residents who came into the shelters last night safely back to their homes. Our community, including Broward County employees, has a proud history of assisting others in an emergency. Broward County will be announcing its plans for post-Dorian relief efforts for our Bahamian neighbors and other affected islands soon.
