UPDATE: Portions of Northeast Broward County Remain Under Boil Water Order

- Lightning strike affected Broward County's 2A water treatment plan -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL -  On Tuesday evening, Broward County Water & Wastewater Services experienced a direct lightning hit at its 2A water treatment plant in Pompano Beach., prompting a precautionary boil water area. A new service map of the area affected is attached.

The lightning strike impacted the capabilities of the pumping station, which resulted in very little to low water pressure in most of Lighthouse Point (except the very southern portion served by Pompano Beach), northern portions of Pompano Beach and parts of Deerfield Beach. Pressure has since been restored but a boil water order will remain in effect until bacteriological surveys show the water is safe to drink.

**PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ORDER IN EFFECT**

For residences and businesses within the cities of Lighthouse Point, Pompano Beach, Coconut Creek and Deerfield Beach that are located within the area bounded by: Hillsboro Beach Boulevard to the north; NW 16th Street to the south; the Intracoastal Waterway to the east; and the Florida Turnpike to the west; as well as the area bounded by NW 77th Court to the north; NW 73rd Street to the south; Lyons Road to the east; and North State Road 7 to the west.

A repair at the Treatment Plant is underway. As a result, low water pressure may affect the quality of drinking water. We advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
