WHAT: Summer Horse Camps

WHERE: Tradewinds Park Stables, 3600 W. Sample Rd., Coconut Creek 33073; 954-357-8720

WHEN: Buckaroos Day Camp – June 9, 10, 11, and 12
Trotters Two-Day Camp – June 16-17, 18-19, 23-24, and 25-26
Trailblazers Week Camp – July 7-10, 14-17, and 21-24
Horsemasters Advanced Camp – August 4-7 and 11-14
8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

WHO: For ages 9-16.

HOW: Fees: $75 for one-day camps, $150 for two-day camps, $300 for intermediate four-day camps, $400 for advanced four-day camps. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Call the stables at 954-357-8720.

Depending on program level, campers get riding instruction and participate in grooming,
saddling, horse care/maintenance, tack/equipment, and other activities.


WHAT: Camp Wacky Wild

WHERE: Plantation Heritage Park, 1100 S. Fig Tree Lane, Plantation, FL 33317; 954-357-5135

WHEN: Weekdays, June 16-27, June 30-July 11 (no camp on July 4), July 14-25, July 28-August 8; 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

WHO: For ages 7-13.

Activities include fishing, boating, zip-lining, archery, science survival, robotics, field exploration, and hands-on science experiments.


WHAT: Fern Forest Nature Detectives

WHERE: Fern Forest Nature Center, 201 Lyons Rd. South, Coconut Creek 33063; 954-357-5198

WHEN: Weekdays, June 23-27 and August 4-8; 9 a.m.-noon

WHO: For ages 8-11.

HOW: Fee: $75/child. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Call the nature center office at 954-357-5198.

Topics vary daily and include: tropical hardwood hammock and cypress maple swamp
exploration; prairie habitat exploration; ponds, creeks, and canals; oak, pine, and palm
community; “Understanding Fern Forest: The Big Picture.” Topics may change depending on weather conditions.


WHAT: Science Eye Safari Camp

WHERE: Tree Tops Park, 3900 S.W. 100th Ave., Davie, FL 33328; 954-357-5130

WHEN: Weekdays, June 16-20, 23-27; July 7-11, 14-18; August 4-8; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. After-care available for an additional fee.

WHO: For ages 7-12.

Campers are immersed in the roles of a scientist making observations, conducting experiments, and engaging in field studies. Participants will learn to explore the world around them, gain insights, and become aware of why it’s important to take care of the environment by taking part in interactive, hands-on projects. Program includes field trips on Fridays and lunch and a snack daily.

Program includes indoor and outdoor activities, arts and crafts, fishing clinics, SWIM Central instruction, nutrition information, game-room activities, Paw Hero program, special events, field trips, exercise, Broward Star Time talent competition, guest speakers.


WHAT: Learning Goals Academic Camp

WHERE: Vista View Park, 4001 S.W. 142nd Ave., Davie, FL 33330; 954-357-8898

WHEN: Weekdays, June 16- August 8; 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

WHO: For ages 6-11.

HOW: Fees vary depending on registration date. Contact the park at 954-357-8898 for details.

Activities include field trips, theater, fitness, nature walks, dance, and science exploration.



Florida sales tax may apply to fee-based camps. Check with the individual program to confirm.

Founded in February 1956 and accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies, Broward County Parks and Recreation Division manages almost 6,500 acres, encompassing nearly 50 regional parks and nature centers, neighborhood parks, and natural areas at various stages of development. Facilities include water parks, campgrounds, a target range, a stadium, a skate park, an observatory, mountain bike trails, an educational farm with stables, and a velodrome and other sports facilities.
