BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Every time we turn on a water faucet, we take for granted that an abundant source of clean, fresh water will always be there. But here in Broward County, the 18th largest county in the United States, water is not endless. It is limited and it must be conserved.

August is National Water Quality Month and we can protect the quality of our water simply by limiting our water use. Water conservation puts less stress on our drinking water supplies.

The Broward Water Partnership, which includes Broward County and 18 local governments and water utilities, has made it easy and cost-effective to participate in National Water Quality Month this August. The Partnership set a goal to save 30 million gallons of water per day by providing rebates and other free incentives to qualifying residents. So, how can you participate?

If your home was built before 1994, you likely have older model toilets that are huge water-wasters and account for up to 35 percent of your average household’s water consumption. Replace those toilets with new, water-saving models and you could receive a rebate of up to $100 for each old toilet you replace. The cost savings are immediate, and the long-term benefits are significant.

To check your eligibility and apply for a rebate visit ConservationPays.

You may also qualify to receive free, low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators. To reduce water use in commercial kitchens, qualified businesses can receive free, pre-rinse spray valves.

The next time you brush your teeth, shower or wash the dishes, think about your water usage. Does the water really need to be running while you brush? Do you really need to take that long of a shower? And would filling up the sink to do the dishes be better than letting the water continuously run? During National Water Quality Month and throughout the year, let’s do all we can to preserve this important resource.
