BROWARD COUNTY, Fla - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Southern Region recognized Kent George, Director of Aviation, Broward County Aviation Department, as its Air Carrier Airport Manager of the Year for 2013.

George was recognized at the 45th Annual Florida Airports Council Conference & Exposition in Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday, August 5.

The FAA honored George for safely and efficiently operating Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, one of the country’s fastest growing airports, while successfully leading one of the largest airport development projects in the country. George worked closely with the FAA and all airport stakeholders to keep the airport functioning effectively while building the new parallel South Runway.

The airport is in the midst of a $2.3 billion expansion program. This includes the construction of its new South Runway, the expansion of the international terminal, construction of an additional concourse in Terminal 1, and the modernization of three terminals. Upon completion of the expansion and modernization in 2017, FLL will have a new runway, 66 gates to serve its passengers with continued low airfares, and a variety of new food concession choices.

In 2012, George received the Director of the Year, Large Airports Category from Airport Revenue News for his excellence in managing Broward County’s Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a service of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.
