August Gallery Exhibit Features Photography

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – For more than a decade, the exhibit hall at Anne Kolb Nature Center (751 Sheridan St., Hollywood 33019; 954-357-5161) has been establishing itself as a consistent alternative venue for art. Free monthly Gallery Exhibits feature work that is often inspired by nature in South Florida and elsewhere, as well as other kinds of art. For August, the show will be “Things That Last, Things That Don’t: Photographs by Michael Mills.”

The show will be up from Saturday, August 3rd, through Friday. August 30th. Hours are 9AM to 5PM daily. A public Reception will be held from 5 to 7PM on Saturday, August 10th.

The Wilton Manors-based Mills has worked in and around the arts in South Florida for more than three decades, initially as a writer and an editor and now, for the past decade, as a fine-arts photographer. His work has been shown in more than a hundred group exhibits at venues throughout Broward County, as well as in Palm Beach County and Gainesville. His previous solo shows include “The Object in Question,” at the Coral Springs Museum of Art (2011-12); “Looking Over the Overlooked,” at Fort Lauderdale City Hall (2013); and “Bittersweet Distractions,” at IberiaBank Wilton Manors (2015). In April/May 2017, the Anne Kolb exhibit hall showcased his “Hidden Nature.”

Mills has won 15 awards for his photos, including Best Photograph in ArtExplosion 2011 and Best in Show at Broward Art Guild’s 2016 Small Works show. His work is in nearly two dozen private collections. He is an active member of the local art groups ArtsUnited and Broward Art Guild.
