Neighborhood Park Promotes Active Living

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Are you at least 50 years of age, know you should be more active, but don’t know how? Another park in the Broward Municipal Services District – Lafayette Hart Park (2851 NW Eighth Rd., Fort Lauderdale 33311; 954-357-7970) – has answers for you. Following the lead of fellow BMSD parks Franklin and Delevoe, the park will offer Active Living Every Day, a program starting on January 15th that will run from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays for 12 weeks, to teach participants how to stay strong and healthy using alternatives to traditional exercise.

Active Living Every Day is like no exercise class you’ve ever been to. In fact, you won’t exercise at all in your weekly classes. Instead, you’ll find ways to be active every day at work, at home, etc. Each meeting will have class discussion, active time, snacks, and giveaways or raffles. Participants will learn new skills to become and stay physically active, such as overcoming barriers to physical activity, setting realistic goals, building confidence, and staying motivated. The program is made possible through support from the Parks Foundation of Broward County, National Recreation and Park Association, and Broward Regional Health Planning Council.
