Airport Job Fair at BB&T Center on September 29, 2021

- More than 800 jobs available from 26 businesses -

BROWARD COUNTY, FLU.S. airports have seen significant increases in passenger counts in 2021 as travel activity recovers from the historic lows in 2020 created by the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, the travel uptick is fueling the need for airport businesses to restore staffing levels to match the renewed surge in demand.

To help in this effort, the Broward County Aviation Department (BCAD) will host a job fair at the BB&T Center in Sunrise on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 9AM to 4PM with 26 employers from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) community. The FLL businesses offering more than 800 available positions include airlines, restaurants, retail shops, rental car companies, government agencies, fixed base operators, and ground transportation providers.

Besides rehiring staff to restore services and operations to pre-pandemic levels, the job fair also provides FLL employers an opportunity to establish a pipeline of prospective talent to tap into as new staffing needs arise with the approach of the year-end holiday travel season.

“We know there is a staffing need among some airport businesses that are experiencing difficulties in attracting new employees,” said Mark Gale, CEO/ Director of Aviation for BCAD, FLL’s operator. “This job fair provides a one-stop opportunity for job seekers to interact with a wide range of FLL businesses to see what jobs are available and determine the best fit. Conversely, businesses are able to network with dozens of prospective employees.”

FLL is among several major U.S. airports hosting job fairs in 2021 to help concessions and other aviation partners fill their staffing voids while working to combat the impact of COVID-19 in other operational areas. Other international airports organizing job fairs this year have included Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson, Chicago O’Hare, Denver, Orlando, Memphis, and Tampa, to name a few.

Face masks are required at the FLL job fair for the safety of everyone in attendance. Parking during the event is free.

See attached flyer for more details.

Note: Media planning to cover the job fair can contact me with any event-related questions. The airport’s CEO will be onsite for media interviews at 11AM.

About Broward's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Airport generated $37.5 billion in economic activity annually and nearly 18,000 direct, local jobs. Despite the impact of COVID-19 on the aviation industry in 2020, FLL ranked 6th in total passenger traffic recovery and 4th in international traffic recovery amongst U.S. airports. Currently, FLL is one of the fastest-recovering U.S. airports, with passenger traffic approaching 2019 levels. In 2020, the Airport served 16.5 million passengers. FLL is located in Greater Fort Lauderdale in the heart of Florida's Gold Coast. The Aviation Department, FLL's operator, is a self-supporting agency of the Broward County Board of County Commissioners that does not rely on local tax dollars for operations and capital improvements. The department also operates North Perry Airport, a general aviation facility for private and charter aircraft operators. Call 954-359-6100 for more information.
