BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD) is promoting a public/private development opportunity adjacent to the City of Fort Lauderdale in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD), formerly known as unincorporated Broward County. This project is part of the County Commission's ongoing effort to revitalize the area.

"We want to aggressively market this opportunity for the next several months and encourage developers to be as creative as possible," said Sandy-Michael E. McDonald, OESBD Director. "The goal is to deliver a development that is consistent with the rich history and character of the community, leverage the prime location, and create economic opportunity for the residents of the BMSD."

Broward County seeks a private sector development partner to help transform a collection of six parcels totaling 1.19 acres located in the 300 block of Northwest 27th Avenue just north of the 310,000 square foot Riverbend Marketplace development featuring a recently opened Walmart Super Center. The site was acquired in 2015 and the County has since demolished all remaining structures, secured the site and completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment.

"This location has tremendous development opportunity," stated McDonald. "The site has a special connection to the local community as the former location of Tater Town. It's located on a major connector road, only blocks away from a new retail development and literally across the street from the Broward Sheriff's Office Public Safety Complex. There's potential to create a special new place within an area that has special significance to the local community."

Acquisition of the site is one of several new initiatives by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners, designed to spur development. Additional initiatives include a $1 million Complete Streets road improvement project for NW 27th Avenue, construction of 18 new single family residences, and a new Economic Development Assistance Program for existing businesses and commercial property owners in the area. The Economic Development Assistance Program will provide matching grants for facade and property improvements as well as demolition and blight removal.
