2019 Ace of Hearts Award Given to Broward Commissioner Beam Furr

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Commissioner Beam Furr is the recipient of the 2019 Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE) Ace of Hearts award.  The prestigious award honors an individual whose contributions to arts education have made a lasting impact on the quality of life in Florida.

Commissioner Furr received the award for his long-standing advocacy and support of quality early learning education. This recognition came as a result of the leadership and support of the Broward Board of County Commissioners for the establishment of an arts integration training facility at the Gulfstream Early Learning Center in Hallandale Beach. Furr sponsored and won Commission approval for $192,000 in funding for the Center for Arts Integration over the next three years.

The Gulfstream Early Learning Center provides holistic support for families with young children.  The facility houses the Broward Teaching Artist Credentialing Project (BTAC). BTAC is the only program of its kind in five counties, training artists how to work effectively with teachers and helping them integrate the arts into their lesson plans.

“Research shows that cultural arts education is a powerful way to reach young students. Over the coming years, Broward County will reap the benefits of the work being done at the Gulfstream Early Learning Center and our Cultural Division’s arts integration facility,” said Furr.

The Gulfstream Early Learning Center provides quality education and childcare services and community focused services such as adult education, family strengthening, health and wellness programs, financial and social service counseling and professional development training for early childhood educators.

The Florida Alliance for Arts Education recognizes leaders who work in various capacities to ensure that arts education is available in all Florida schools and communities and that arts education is of the highest quality.
