BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) will be performing major bridge rehabilitation on a County-owned bridge on Oakland Park Boulevard, over the C-42 Canal in Sunrise (500 feet west of Hiatus Road; refer to attached map). The work will begin on June 14, 2021 and will conclude in June 2022, barring any unforeseen conditions and/or weather delays.

The most recent Florida Department of Transportation inspection report classified this bridge as structurally deficient, which means that the bridge is safe to travel; however, major repairs or replacement must be completed within six years. The work was prioritized, and funded through the Mobility Advancement Program. HBMD developed an innovative design and construction method, one of the first in Florida, which minimizes construction impacts to the public by mainly working on the underside of the bridge.

During construction, up to two lanes of traffic will be closed to vehicular traffic between 9AM and 4PM. Access to businesses, residences, sidewalks and greenway will be maintained. Variable message signs will be posted to warn motorists and pedestrians.
