BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Parks and Recreation Division, along with professionally trained firefighters, is scheduled to burn a small area of Crystal Lake Sand Pine Scrub Natural Area (3299 NE Third Ave., Pompano Beach 33064), weather permitting, between February and April 2022. The prescribed fires may be conducted over multiple days, and each will be well under one acre in size. The area is located just east of I-95, south of Sample Road, just north of NE Third Avenue.
In addition to increasing biodiversity and improving wildlife habitat, this management tool is essential to maintaining this Florida sand pine scrub vegetation community. These burns will be in an area that previously had undergrowth manually removed to improve habitat quality and reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfires. The prescribed burn will be conducted by professionally trained prescribed burn managers of Broward County Parks in conjunction with professionally trained firefighters.
Specific weather conditions are required for the prescribed burn to be conducted. If the weather conditions are not met on the day of the burn, the fire will be postponed.
