BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Board of County Commissioners presented a proclamation encouraging residents to reduce food waste at home, at work and in the community in observance of Food Waste Prevention Week, April 4-8, 2022. The County is partnering with Save the Food Florida for the week-long observance with social media bingo games and challenges, K-12 student engagement contests, invention marathons, presentations and celebrated local chefs.

"Food waste creates a lot of our biggest challenges with more than 222,000 hungry people in Broward County," said Commissioner Beam Furr. "I was proud to present a proclamation for Food Waste Prevention Week, in hopes that residents will think twice before they throw out food."

Nearly 35% of all food produced in America goes uneaten and almost all of that goes to waste. Reducing food waste helps save money and can save a family of four $1800 per year. It also conserves land, water, energy and resources that are used to grow, package and transport food.

Broward County is joining various agencies and stakeholders in the country in a collaborative effort and shared commitment to reducing food loss and waste.
