Traffic Signal Communications to be Upgraded to Fiber Optics

- Construction to start in North Lauderdale and Tamarac on April 25th -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway Construction and Engineering Division will be upgrading traffic signal communications to a high-speed fiber-optic network in North Lauderdale and Tamarac starting April 25, 2022, and ending in March 2023, barring any unforeseen delays. Work will take place along McNab Road from Pine Island Road to State Road 7. The project is funded by the Mobility Advancement Program (MAP Broward).

Fiber-optic cables operate via light rather than electrical signals and are far less likely to be affected by extreme weather conditions and other hazards.

During construction, temporary lane and sidewalk closures will be necessary. Temporary message signs will be used to warn motorists and pedestrians. County staff will also coordinate project activities with local businesses, municipalities, first responders, utility companies and residents.

Highway Construction and Engineering Project Manager Eddie Martin can be reached at 954-577-4643 or emartin@broward.org.

Broward County appreciates your patience as we complete the upgrade.
