BROWARD COUNTY, FLThe Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has named Nina MacPherson, Airport Manager at North Perry Airport (HWO), its 2022 Aviation Professional of the Year. The annual FDOT honor recognizes an individual's professional achievements in airport management, aviation safety, and outstanding contributions to Florida's aviation community. MacPherson's aviation administration/management career spans three decades, with the last 20 years spent in her current capacity at HWO, one of Florida's busiest general aviation airports. Before HWO, she held managerial positions at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Boca Raton Airport.

Under her leadership, HWO has benefited from significant capital improvement efforts, including major airfield and runway upgrades, safety and security enhancements, hangar development, and beautification projects, according to the award nomination submitted by planning and design consultancy Kimley-Horn. MacPherson has also tirelessly given back to the industry, serving on countless aviation committees and boards and mentoring industry professionals.

Currently, MacPherson serves as president of the Florida Airports Council (FAC) Education Foundation conferring scholarships to deserving students in the aviation industry. Previously, she served as chair of FAC, the largest statewide aviation association in the country. Additionally, she's a member of the Board of Directors for the Southeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives and holds the Accredited Airport Executive distinction awarded by the association.

"Ultimately, this recognition is a reflection of all my peers, colleagues, and friends who have been kind and generous in sharing their knowledge and wisdom along the way," MacPherson said. "I am fortunate to have been surrounded by passionate aviation professionals and an incredible airport team."

The 2022 FDOT Aviation Awards were announced in late July at FAC's 53rd Annual FAC Conference in Orlando.
