BROWARD COUNTY, FL - If you're at a loss for what to do with your home landscape, Secret Woods Nature Center (2701 W State Rd. 84, Dania Beach 33312; 954-357-8884) has answers in the upcoming Fall Home Landscape Series 2022. This long-running series of free lectures is designed for homeowners who want to add to the beauty of their homes through creative and ecologically sound landscaping. The lectures, for ages 13 and up, will be held in the nature center's air-conditioned Julia Hall on Thursdays, September 22nd and 29th, and October 6th, 13th, and 20th, from 7 to 8:30PM.

These topics will be featured:

  • Sept. 22nd - "Tropical Fruit Trees," with David Harold, Rare Fruit & Vegetable Council of Broward County
  • Sept. 29th - "Termite Diversity in Florida: Both Friend & Foe," with Aaron Mullins, University of Florida's Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center
  • Oct. 6th - "Landscaping With Orchids," with Rich Ackerman, former president of Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society
  • Oct. 13th - "Vegetable Gardening," with Scott Bryan, local plant specialist
  • Oct. 20th - "Landscaping Your Home," with Janine Griffiths, native plant educator and consultant, Green Thumb Inc.

You can put what you've learned from the lectures to work in your own home landscaping by purchasing native and landscape plants from local nurseries. They'll be at the nature center's Native Plant Sale, from 9AM to 1PM on Saturday, October 22nd.
