Drainage Improvement Project in Fort Lauderdale and Oakland Park

- Work to begin October 3 -

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division will be upgrading the drainage infrastructure on NW 23rd Avenue / NW 21st Avenue between Sunrise Boulevard and Commercial Boulevard (see attached map). The work will begin on October 3, 2022 and conclude on or before December 2023, barring any unforeseen conditions and/or weather delays.

This maintenance-driven Mobility Advancement Program project will mainly focus on addressing drainage issues within the project limits. The project is divided into two phases. During construction, access to businesses, driveways and the sidewalk along the corridor will remain available.

Section 1: Between Sunrise Boulevard and NW 12th Court, drainage rehabilitation from October 10 to April 2023. During this work, the outside travel lane in the southbound direction will be closed by phases and the southbound traffic will be shifted to the two-way left turn lane.

Section 2: Between NW 19th Street and Commercial Boulevard, the initial work will involve pipe cleaning and inspection starting October 3 to December 2023. Drainage rehabilitation will follow the inspection. During construction, one lane (at a time) in each direction will be closed to vehicular traffic during non-peak hours and traffic will be shifted to the two-way left turn lane.
