Economic Study Lays Out Five-Year Strategic Plan for South Florida

- Report outlines economic strengths, weaknesses, solutions-

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward Commissioner Steve Geller will release the findings of the 2022-2027 Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) report at a news conference on Monday, November 14th at 10AM at the Broward Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Room 422 in Fort Lauderdale.

The CEDS Committee members who researched and compiled the economic data represent a large executive cross-section of the South Florida Tri-County area. (See below)  The CEDS lays out the economic forecast in a variety of areas over the next five years for the South Florida region from experts in banking, education, environmental engineering, labor, medical field, city and county governments, economic development, international business, manufacturing, and trade.

The CEDS addresses many complex issues facing the South Florida Region, which includes Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties.  Numerous challenges are addressed in the 135-page report including lack of affordable housing, salaries, jobs strengths and weaknesses, educational needs, and recommended solutions to overcome these problems.

Infrastructure, the environment, and sustainability problems unique to South Florida are also examined, along with discussions regarding regionalization, resiliency preparedness, and how to reduce income inequality.

"We've spent a lot of time and energy on developing this path to the future. These are the very topics that people are talking about and are concerned about now. We've done the deep dive into what our agreed-upon priorities are and identified what actions must take place to reach our regional goals in the future" said Commissioner Geller.

The CEDS report has been approved by the South Florida Regional Planning Council and will be submitted to the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce as required by law.

Data, statistics, analytics, and findings outlined in the report will act as a blueprint for the current economy, pave the way for the region's future improved economy and make viable suggestions for how to achieve common goals that will help to create a sustainable and lasting quality of life in the rapidly growing area of South Florida, that more than 4.7 million people call home.
