BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County has a new Mayor and Vice Mayor today. Two new Broward Commissioners have been sworn in and three incumbent Commissioners have once again been sworn in to represent their individual districts.

The Broward Board of County Commissioners selected District 4 Commissioner and former Vice Mayor, Lamar P. Fisher to serve as Mayor.  Commissioner Nan Rich (District 1) has been chosen to serve as Vice Mayor.  The Broward County Charter stipulates that Commissioners, elected from single-member districts, vote annually in November for the position of Mayor and Vice Mayor.

Outgoing Mayor Michael Udine delivered the 2022 Annual State of the County Address today and described the State of the County as "strong."  He noted that Commissioners passed a balanced $6.9 billion budget for FY23 without raising property taxes and increased the living wage for employees and outsourced contractual workers doing business with the county. Commissioner Udine will continue to serve the residents of District 3.

Mayor Fisher will also serve as the Commissioner representing Broward District 4 after winning re-elected this year. Fisher is a fourth-generation resident of Broward County, and his great-grandfather signed the articles of incorporation for the City of Pompano Beach in 1908.

He entered public service in 1994 by serving on the City of Pompano Beach Planning and Zoning Board for eight years. He was successfully elected as the Pompano Beach City Commissioner for District 3 in 2002 and re-elected in 2004 and 2006. Following in his grandfather's footsteps, in 2007 Lamar was elected Mayor-at-Large of Pompano Beach and served re-election terms in 2010, 2013, and 2016 through November of 2018. Commission District 4 encompasses Fort Lauderdale (part), Hillsboro Beach, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Lazy Lake, Lighthouse Point, Oakland Park (part), Pompano Beach (part), Sea Ranch Lakes, and Wilton Manors (part).  Mayor Fisher was proudly sworn in by his daughter Patricia Fisher McGrath, with his wife Suzan Fisher, his son-in-law Tom McGrath, his granddaughter Madison, and his son and daughter-in-law Paul and Molly Fisher by his side.

Commissioners also chose Nan Rich to serve as Vice Mayor. Nan Rich represents Broward District 1 and is a former State Senator.  She served in the State Senate from 2004 until she was term-limited in 2012. She was the first woman to be elected Senate Democratic Leader in 2010. She also served two terms in the Florida House of Representatives. She was voted to represent residents in District 1 in 2016.  Commission District 1 encompasses Broward Municipal Service District (SW Regional Landfill), County Regional Facility (Water Conservation Area), Miramar (part), Pembroke Pines (part), Southwest Ranches (part), and Weston.
