BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway and Bridge
Maintenance Division will perform emergency repairs on the County-owned Sheridan
Street Bridge over the Florida Turnpike in Hollywood between North 64th Avenue and SR7 (441). The
work is scheduled to begin on December 4, 2022 and be completed
by December 23, 2022, barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays.
The project involves permanent repair work that
will address recent damage caused by an over-height vehicle that struck and
completely damaged two of the bridge's concrete beams. Since the incident in October, one
of the eastbound lanes of Sheridan Street has been closed.
This is the first phase of the project, which will replace the damaged
concrete beams with more robust beams and restore all the lanes of
Sheridan Street, the sidewalk and barrier walls that were damaged
from the bridge strike.
Traffic Control (see attached road closure plan below):
Florida's Turnpike:
Intermittent northbound closures from Hollywood Boulevard (Exit 49) to Griffin Road (Exit 53). Nightly lane closures in both directions.
Sheridan Street:
Eastbound closure between December 4 and December 12. Then, one lane will be open to traffic. At least one westbound lane will be open during the entire project.
A road closure plan has been developed to minimize the effect of the construction on
the traveling public, businesses and residents, complete with detour routes. (See attached detour maps). Construction activities will occur 24 hours per day, 7 days a week during the
first two weeks of the project; then, all construction activities will occur only
at night. Variable message signs will be posted to advise affected
motorists. Florida Highway Patrol officers will be on-site to support
construction activities and Broward County's Traffic Engineering staff will assist in
retiming the traffic signals along the detour route.
