HURRICANE MATTHEW ADVISORY NO. 11

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - After Hurricane Matthew passes, the owner, operator or director of a licensed or registered child care arrangement must notify Broward County Child Care Licensing & Enforcement (CCLE) of its operational status in order to ensure health standards are met for continued operations.

Please contact CCLE on Monday, October 10, via e-mail at
CCLE@broward.org or by phone (954) 357-4800 regarding your operational status.

A licensed or registered child care arrangement is able to operate once the surrounding area has been cleared for access and deemed safe to include:

·  It has NO structural damage, AND
·  It has FULL electrical service, AND
·
The water and sewage/septic tank are working properly.

CCLE will assess if a licensed or registered child care arrangement may be able to re-open based on a case-by-case assessment providing:
·  It has NO structural damage, AND
·  The water and sewage/septic tank are working properly, AND
·  It is without electricity BUT lighting needs are being met through natural light or battery lights. Under
no circumstances are candles, open flames, gas or fuel lanterns to be used.

If the licensed or registered child care arrangement sustains
structural damage, regardless of the extent, an on-site inspection is required PRIOR to caring for children. Inspections will be conducted in collaboration with other departments and or agencies to ensure the location is safe.

CAUTION: CCLE strongly recommends that you contact the Municipal Fire Department regarding County and Local requirements regarding the use of a portable generator in accordance with manufacturers guidelines. The Department of Children and Family Services' guidelines for Operating a Child Care Program Following a Declared Emergency Guidelines provide that generators, if used, must be located outdoors away from windows and doors.  Exhaust can easily cause carbon monoxide poisoning if it enters the building or home.
