HURRICANE MATTHEW ADVISORY NO. 12

BROWARD COUNTY, FL -Broward County continues its preparation for Hurricane Matthew.  

·  Broward County Transit (BCT) regular and Paratransit bus service will be suspended on Wednesday, October 5, at end of service around midnight. There will be no regular or Paratransit bus service on Thursday, October 6. Plans are to resume service as soon as possible on Friday, October 7, based upon weather and road conditions. Residents wishing to take BCT to one of the County's shelters will find shelter locations and bus routes on the
website. In addition, beginning at 9PM, Wednesday, October 5, special "Evacuation" buses will run along Federal Highway to transport passengers to the closest shelter.

·  The County is adding another shelter at New Renaissance Middle School, 10701 Miramar Blvd., Miramar, 33025. This is In addition to the nine shelters already slated to open at 9PM today.

·  A mandatory evacuation has not been ordered for Broward County, but a voluntary evacuation is strongly encouraged for low lying areas and mobile homes. Any resident who does not feel safe in their home should consider evacuating.

·  The Nancy J. Cotterman Center (NJCC) will close on Wednesday, October 5, at 8PM.  The NJCC helpline (954-761-7273) will remain in operation during the closure. All Broward County Law Enforcement and Broward Sheriff's Office Child Protective Investigators should utilize hospital emergency rooms for sexual assault and child abuse examinations.  Anyone with a scheduled appointment for Saturday, October 8, should call 954-357-5775 on Saturday to confirm their appointment.
