BROWARD COUNTY, FL - Broward County Animal Care had another record-setting year with increased live release rates, decreased animal intakes, and increased license tag sales.

"The Division used the momentum it had built from the previous year and set ambitious goals for fiscal year 2016," said Thomas Adair, Director, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Division. "I am pleased to say that we exceeded every goal that was set, including, increase our live release rate, decrease intake, and increase license tag sales. Staff did a remarkable job fulfilling the strategies that were created last year so that we are now able to see the fruits of their labor."

During the past fiscal year, which ended on September 30th, Animal Care's live release rate for pets rose 16%, at the same time shelter intake decreased by 9%.

Fiscal year 2016 also demonstrated unprecedented growth for license sales. In 2013, the Board of County Commissioners approved the use of license sales in excess of 100,000, to fund low-to-no-cost sterilization programs. The 2016 fiscal year concluded with 132,582 licenses sold, which represents an increase of more than 24,000 licenses over the previous year. As a result, the $763,000 additional revenue generated will be transferred into the Sterilization Trust Fund for fiscal year 2017.

Adair says the Animal Care Division is thrilled with recent accomplishments but isn't satisfied just yet. "It is very rewarding to see the impact of our efforts. As we move forward, we will continue to develop our successful endeavors and improve areas where there is opportunity."
