BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The time has come! The new Broward County Animal Care Adoption Center will open to the public on Tuesday, November 15th at 11AM.

The new shelter is located at 2400 SW 42nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, directly across from the long-term parking lot for Broward County's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

To help prepare for the transition of dogs and cats to the new location, a special "Moving Sale" adoption promotion will take place beginning Saturday, October 22 at the current facility located at 1870 SW 39th Street, Fort Lauderdale. All adoption fees on dogs and cats will be waived.

"To help ease the transition of pets from our old shelter to our new Adoption Center, we welcome the public to come and adopt a dog or cat now, so that fewer pets will need to be relocated as part of our move," said Lisa Mendheim, Public Communications Specialist, Broward County Animal Care.

The new building is twice the size of the current shelter and will have the capacity to care for approximately 500 dogs and cats. Features include:

  • Air-conditioned kennels
  • Meet & Greet adoption rooms
  • Outdoor pet interaction area
  • Much more
