BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. - Broward County Parks and Recreation Division has been notified that the lifeguard staffs at three of our water parks have won 2013 International Aquatic Safety Awards from Ellis & Associates International Aquatic Safety & Risk Management Consultants. The lifeguards at Castaway Island, the water park at T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park, and at Tropical Splash, the water park at Central Broward Regional Park & Stadium, won the Silver Award. The lifeguard staff at Splash Adventure, the water park at Quiet Waters Park, won the Gold Award.

The awards are given only to aquatics professionals who score in the top percentages of the audit criteria. For this year’s awards, all three water parks scored in the top 30 percent of audit criteria. This means that our lifeguards are among the top in their field, ensuring that visitors to these facilities “are consistently being afforded…the highest degree of swimmer protection currently available for the aquatic industry,” according to Ellis & Associates.

“We are tremendously proud of the young professionals who work as lifeguards at our water parks,” says Parks Director Dan West. “They set the bar high not only in terms of their commitment to protecting the lives of our park guests, but also for their dedication to the day-to-day responsibilities behind the scenes at the water parks. The awards confirm what I have long known: These employees live up to high standards every day on the job.”
