BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. - In recognition of the Just One Day event, on Wednesday, June 11, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption will join other animal shelters across the country that have taken the pledge not to euthanize any nonsuffering animals.

In addition, Broward County Animal Care will focus on scoring a “perfect 10” with the goal of adopting as many dogs and cats as possible, through special $10 adoption fees at its Fort Lauderdale Adoption Center, 1870 S.W. 39 Street. The Center will be open for adoptions from 1 to 6 p.m. that day.

All dogs can be adopted for $10. Cat lovers are encouraged to adopt two cats/kittens for the incredible price of $10. The special fee also applies to the Animal Care cats that are available for adoption at participating Pet Supermarket stores located in Broward County. The adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, physical exam, all necessary vaccinations, Broward County Rabies Registration tags and microchips.

“This is the third anniversary of the Just One Day event,” said Lisa Mendheim, public education coordinator, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption. “However, it is only one day in an ongoing effort to save the dogs and cats in our care. Only through strong community support, responsible pet owners and the willingness of residents to adopt a homeless pet, will we truly be able to reduce the number of pets in our shelter and find every pet a loving and permanent home.”

The Just One Day concept, founded by No Kill Nation, a nationwide animal advocacy group, encourages shelters and communities to support homeless pets through comprehensive on- and off-site adoption programs, affordable spay/neuter programs, large scale foster care programs, medical and behavioral programs, pet retention and redemption services, rescue transfer programs and volunteer programs.
