BROWARD COUNTY, FL -
Sixty 5th grade science students from North Fork Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale will be conducting a hurricane simulation at the Broward County Emergency Operations Center to prepare for and recover from the wrath of fictitious Hurricane Elsa which will sweep through their community.

Throughout the exercise, the students will be confronted with an assortment of challenges that they'll need to resolve by working together as a team.

WHO: 5th grade Science and Civics students from North Fork Elementary

WHAT: Student hurricane simulation

WHEN:
Wednesday, September 24, 2014, 10AM to 1PM

WHERE: Broward County Emergency Operations Center, 201 NW 84th Avenue, Plantation

The exercise is part of StormZone, a school-based education program that helps students understand the importance of advance preparation when confronted with a natural disaster such as a hurricane. Students form their own local government and simulate what happens and how to respond when a fictitious hurricane targets their community.
