BROWARD COUNTY, FL – As the beaches of South Florida have long demonstrated, people who want to go swimming will find a way to go swimming, regardless of the season. The thin-blooded among us may shake our heads in wonder as hardier locals and our visitors from “up north” take the plunge and ask us, “What’s the big deal?” In recognition of this, the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division is opening the Swim Lagoon at Castaway Island at T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park on select weekdays starting in December.

WHAT: Beginning on Wednesday, December 3rd, the popular Hollywood attraction will invite you to get your feet (and more) wet from 11AM to 3PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Admission will be $5 (plus tax) for those older than 1 year.

The original sand-bottom swimming lagoon at T.Y. was a big draw for many years, until it was replaced with a hard-bottom, zero-entry pool, complete with a waterfall at one end, in 2007. Since then, the Swim Lagoon has kept pace with the two adjacent water playgrounds that round out Castaway Island, which are open from mid-March through the end of September.

WHERE: T.Y. (Topeekeegee Yugnee) Park
3300 N. Park Rd., Hollywood, FL 33021
954-357-8811

WHEN: Wednesdays & Thursdays, starting December 3rd, 11AM-3PM

WHO: For all ages; 12 months and younger are admitted free.

HOW: $5 admission (plus sales tax).

For further information, call T.Y. at 954-357-8811. The park is accessible via Broward County Transit Routes #12 and #16,
