BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The Florida Section of the American Water Works Association (FSAWWA) has named Broward County Water and Wastewater Services Operations Division first place winner of the 2014 Division 6 Outstanding Distribution System Award. The award was presented at the recent FSAWWA Conference in Orlando.

Each year FSAWWA reviews submissions from across the state to determine the water distribution systems deserving special recognition for outstanding performance. FSAWWA committee members judged the county’s system based on information provided in the following categories: water quality, operations record, maintenance, professionalism of employees, safety and emergency preparedness, and cross connection/control program. The committee also reviewed other areas including  customer service, public outreach efforts and training.

“It’s an honor for Broward County Water and Wastewater Services to be recognized by the FSAWWA,” said Mark Darmanin, Director of the Water and Wastewater Operations Division, who accepted the award on behalf of the utility. “Our employees’ hard work, knowledge, experience and dedication put us in a position to win the award. This is hopefully the first step towards becoming the best utility in the state. This prestigious award is a well-deserved recognition of the division's continual effort to provide the highest level of professionalism and service."

The FSAWWA has been presenting the Water Distribution System Award since 1997. It is dedicated to ensuring Florida’s present and future generations have a sufficient supply of high quality drinking water.  For more information visit www.fsawwa.org.
