BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Broward County’s Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department announces the appointment of Henry Sniezek as Deputy Director.

Mr. Sniezek has over 30 years of experience in planning, development, administration and management. He served as Director of the Planning and Redevelopment Division for two years and as Executive Director of the Broward Planning Council for eight years. Prior to his position as Executive Director, Sniezek served as the Council’s Director of Planning for 11 years. He started his career in planning with the Council and rapidly advanced to management and executive positions. He has a Master of Arts in Urban Sociology from the University of Florida with specialization in urban social structure and development.

Sniezek has a distinguished record of achievements and experience in comprehensive planning, environmental protection, transportation, staff management and development, engaging communities, and building consensus. He has been appointed to various boards including the Broward Housing Council, Climate Change Task Force, Redevelopment Advisory Boards, and City of Fort Lauderdale Board of Adjustment. He is the Coordinator of the Broward County Complete Streets Team and is leading the #BrowardNEXT initiative in collaboration with the Planning Council. The goal of #BrowardNEXT is to review the Broward County Land Use Plan and Comprehensive Plan to ensure they are reflective of the County’s current and anticipated conditions and priorities. The review will seek more efficient methods and effective policies to facilitate a countywide planning program consistent with the challenges and opportunities of our ever changing community.

About Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department 
The Department’s core business emphasizes service to its customers and stakeholders by addressing animal care and adoption, environmental, growth management, building code services, affordable housing, consumer protection and emergency management requirements of the private and public sectors within Broward County. Through its many services and programs, the Department encourages proper use of natural resources and promotes affordable housing and redevelopment through the management of development activities and enforcement of animal care and adoption, building, environmental, zoning and consumer protection regulations. These services may involve cooperative efforts with other local, state and/or federal jurisdictions. Important interface among these agencies is maintained to ensure timely implementation of the County’s strategic plan for public protection, construction of public infrastructure, natural habitat enhancement and protection, effective legislation and support of the Board of County Commissioners.
