BROWARD COUNTY, FL -
June is "Adopt a Cat" month and to celebrate, Broward County Animal Care will waive adoption fees on kittens and cats through the month of June.  The promotion also includes all felines adopted at Pet Supermarket stores located in Broward County.

"June is the perfect time to recognize cat adoptions.  Not only does it put the focus on the importance of giving a home to a cat in need, but we are now in the midst of 'kitten season' when our Adoption Center experiences a large increase in the number of cats and kittens that we receive," said Lisa Mendheim, Public Education Coordinator.

If you can't adopt a cat, but wish to help, there are several other ways to make a difference:

Foster:

Residents can lend a helping hand by fostering very young kittens. The youngsters-- sometimes only days old--must be bottle fed in order to survive. Foster Parents must be able to commit the time and care to ensure the health and survival of the foster pet. Fostering is also a perfect opportunity for students who need community service hours for school, since hours are awarded for each fostered litter. For more information about the Foster Program e-mail at animalcarevolunteer@broward.org.

Donate:

Make a donation to help cats in needs.  "Wish list" items include:

  • Canned cat food
  • Dry cat food (all sizes and varieties)
  • Cat toys
  • Cat litter (non-clumping)
  • Cat treats
  • Kitten milk replacement formula
  • Kitten bottles and nipples
  • Newspapers
  • Towels

Volunteer:

The volunteer program offers opportunities for residents to help in unique and special ways either at the shelter or special events.
