BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The Highway and Bridge Maintenance Division (HBMD) will soon start construction on the Atlantic Trailhead located at the Sawgrass Expressway and Atlantic Boulevard. This trailhead was designed by Highway Construction and Engineering. The project is set to begin August 10, 2015.

The Atlantic Trailhead is one of several planned along the Everglades Conservation Levee Trail. It will serve to connect the levee trail with the Cypress Creek Greenway which runs east along Atlantic Boulevard and the C-14 canal. Heading north from the trailhead, hikers and bikers can walk and ride as far as the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Palm Beach County. Heading south, the levee intersects with the New River Greenway, providing access to Markham Park. Heading west from the trailhead, the levee follows a 10-mile loop which meets US 27 at the Sawgrass Recreation Area.

The addition of the Atlantic Trailhead will add to the opportunities which make the Everglades experience more accessible to Broward County residents and visitors.
